The Senior Buyer is responsible for developing and selecting women’s apparel items and/or product lines that are customer focused, unique, and based on past sales history. Will also assist in developing strategy for women’s product assortment. The position involves multiple categories, seasons, catalogs and web. Contributes to product presentation and merchandising strategy to support strategic and financial goals.

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for assortment planning, product selection and development for assigned product category
  • Assist in executing assortment and merchandise plan for catalog and web
  • Analyze past product performance to determine or predict future success. Conduct research and business analysis regarding market/consumer trends, demographics, merchandise sales levels, competitor performance, etc
  • Work closely with inventory planners forecast and negotiate all facets of product purchase, terms, price, quantities, etc
  • Work closely with the Creative department to ensure accurate and most advantageous catalog representation; assist in item presentation in catalog(s), including layout, text, photos and art
  • Disseminates product information to quality assurance
  • Aid in the development of product specifications, as needed. Work with product technicians to assure quality and consistency in finished product
  • Travel to trade shows, markets, and vendor facilities to meet vendors and negotiate merchandise purchases
  • Exhibit professional conduct in all business relationships, actions and communications

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience which provides required knowledge, skills and abilities
  • Minimum 5 - 7 years experience in direct marketing buying and product development
  • Strong written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills, including excellent negotiation skills
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to conduct analysis, problem solve and make decisions
  • Able to multi-task and work effectively to meet deadlines
  • Strong sense of style and ability to carry out a strategic vision
  • Proficient PC skills and ability to work with computer applications and programs
  • Travel required to domestic and international locations
