The Scheduler position will facilitate the successful operation of manufacturing operations through aggressive management of material flow throughout the supply chain. Utilize lean manufacturing concepts and processes for shop floor control, supplier releases and the principles and tools of MRP for planning the supply chain. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, scheduling of suppliers, system set-up and maintenance and inventory control.

Responsibilities:

  • Serve as Leatherman’s “expert” and “go to” employee on key MRP related modules (Inventory Control, Item Masters, Product Structures, Routings and Work Centers, Work Orders, Advanced Repetitive, Materials Requirements Planning, and Lean) within the ERP system. Provide informal on the job system and process training to ensure consistent and appropriate use of these modules.
  • Create and maintain Bills of Material (BOMs), Routings, Item Master elements, rates, lead times, work centers for materials, components, and unconfigured tools in support of new product implementation and special make ups (SMUs) utilizing the appropriate process. Interface with Manufacturing, Manufacturing Engineering, Design Engineering, Sourcing, Marketing and Sales to understand their intent, identify potential issues, challenge assumptions and correct errors relating to their specific requests or inputs to ensure proper material flow through the factory and inventory back flushing within the system.
  • Interface and coordinate with Marketing, Sales/Customer Service, Packaging/Shipping, and Sourcing to support the Configured BOM/Routing process in order to create, update and maintain part numbers, BOMs and Routings for salable items.
  • Establishing item/supplier transfer effectivity dates (ECN and RCR processes) relative to inventory levels in order to coordinate matched set production and reduce excessive obsolete material quantities.
  • Utilize blue prints and drawings and knowledge of inventory to assign part numbers to create Item Master files.
  • Maintain the Unconfigured and Configured item status throughout the product life cycle. Coordinate start of life and end of life activities with master scheduling function, Sourcing, Customer Service/Sales, Packaging/Shipping and Marketing to manage inventories in support production ramps and to eliminate excess write-offs.
  • Facilitate the successful launch of new product by updating the Lean module data base with manufacturing information, creating Kanban cards and coordinating delivery of components and scheduling the build into daily production.
  • Support the maintenance and updating of the Lean module data base, to include source work centers, supermarkets, lead times, rates, availability data and Kanban loops. Print Kanban cards and manage Kanban loops.
  • Analyze manufacturing operations information regarding routings, bill of material structures, lead times, Kanbans quantities, and other data and provides input and recommendations.
  • Manage cycle counts for both direct and indirect material inventories as well as Kanban cards. Investigate inventory movement or transactions that cause variance or negative quantity conditions (cycle counting). Coordinate with other departments to resolve and correct conditions causing variances.
  • Trigger supplier releases based upon supplier Kanban loop status. Provide documentation and direction for shipment, including shipment dates and scheduling requirements to suppliers. Track in transit and back ordered parts, working with supplier and Sourcing to resolve issues. Develop functional understanding of Purchasing and Supplier Schedules modules.
  • Continually review of the production schedule to anticipate, as much as possible, any delays in meeting the schedule. Coordinate with Quality, Manufacturing and/or Sourcing to support the creation of a recovery plan if necessary.
  • Provide project support by gathering data from multiple information systems and creating reports using Microsoft Excel and Word.
  • Participate as required on special project teams to validate and improve data integrity in the manufacturing systems.

Requirements:

  • Associates degree in Business, Supply Management, Accounting or Math preferred or equivalent experience.
  • 1 - 3 years experience in a manufacturing environment utilizing office skills with direct computer experience with MRP systems (QAD MfgPro preferred), MS Excel spreadsheets, MS Outlook.
  • APICS certification or coursework preferred.
