Manage all aspects of production of semiconductor laser assemblies for medium- to high-volume production of ruggedized military & commercial products, including die and wire bonding, burn-in, test, lensing, fiber coupling, seam-sealing, electronics integration and laser module assembly. Lead team of supervisors, technicians and assemblers to meet quality, yield, delivery, cost and cycle-time goals. Implement key strategic programs, including lean manufacturing, SPC and ERP.Play a leading role in achieving Manufacturing Operations’ vision: Become a world-class manufacturing organization that is a major source of competitive advantage, and delivers the best operations performance in the high-power semiconductor laser industry as measured by customer returns, on-time delivery, yield, gross margin and employee retention.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage strategic and tactical aspects of semiconductor laser assembly production for medium-to-high-volume production of ruggedized military & commercial products
  • Establish production schedules with planning and business groups and execute against schedule to meet goals for revenue, on-time delivery and lead-time
  • Meet aggressive, world-class goals on quality, cycle time, yield and cost
  • Aggressively ramp production of new products as they move from the design phase to volume production
  • Analyze bottlenecks and establish sufficient capacity to cost-effectively meet production demands
  • Implement key improvement initiatives, including lean manufacturing and Statistical Process Control
  • Use Enterprise Resource Planning system to plan and manage production, and deploy additional functionality as required
  • Manage facilities, including maintenance and build-outs, for optimal uptime and cost
  • Interface with senior management and various functions such as Supply Chain, Development Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering and IT as required to establish plans and execute against them
  • Ensure strong safety program in place
  • Manage and motivate direct staff of supervisors
  • Build upon ISO9001:2000 certified quality management system in place

Requirements:

  • BS in Engineering or Business is required, and MS in Engineering or Business preferable.
  • 5-10 years high-tech manufacturing experience with at least five years in a managerial role
  • Implementation and use of lean manufacturing, SPC, ERP systems
  • Semiconductor laser micro-assembly, especially die and wire bonding
  • Background in industrial engineering
  • APICS CPIM
  • Six Sigma Black Belt
  • Experience in ITAR-compliant operation
  • Strong communication skills
  • Excellent team player
  • Hands-on deployment of lean manufacturing techniques (e.g., material pull/kanban, visual management, one-piece flow, value-stream mapping, 5S)
