The Supply Chain Engineer will provide leadership to insure effective long-term partnerships with suppliers that accomplish the business objectives at Micro Systems Engineering, Inc. He or she will lead through a combination of technical engineering skills and business skills to improve the supply chain and associated processes. The engineer will lead development and implementation of supplier and commodity strategies. This position will also provide purchasing support and services to reduce time to market and achieve sustained manufacturing, and identify opportunities to improve business performance. The primary objective of this position is to contribute to the continued improvement in business performance and profitability.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop commodity and supplier strategies for long-range business direction.
  • Lead cross-functional commodity teams, driving strategy for future supplier selection and for management of current suppliers’ performance.
  • Lead, coordinate and execute project plans to completion including documentation, presentation and communication.
  • Ensure inventory and quality management strategies are executed.
  • Ensure proper support of materials for all schedules.
  • Initiate and manage total costs which result in price reductions, value and productivity improvements, cost avoidances and cost performance trade-offs.
  • Manage the supplier base including contract management, performance reviews and development strategies for on-going improvements in business performance.
  • Provide Engineering and Manufacturing information related to supplier capabilities and long term technical direction.
  • Keep informed of supplier direction, business objectives and current/future products.
  • Support engineering schedules and technical requirements and applications with timely response for materials, data and supplier communications.
  • Understand and communicate to Operations organization supply market trends and potential implications.
  • Develop agreements that clearly identify the intent and responsibilities of both parties and assure compliance with all appropriate legal requirements.

Requirements:

  • Bachelors degree in technical field or equivalent, with MS (business) or MBA preferred.
  • Proven cross-functional team leadership and team building skills.
  • Demonstrated project success.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Five to ten years experience as a senior-level procurement agent in a high-tech industry.
  • Proven success in business relations, negotiations and applying purchasing principles.
  • Demonstrated success in asset management and cost control.
  • Demonstrated inventory management skills.
  • SAP or other leading-edge ERP system expert level knowledge in materials and supply.
  • Demonstrated understanding of quality assurance and improvement processes.
  • Microsoft Excel, Word, Access, and PowerPoint skills. Expert Excel skills highly desirable.
  • Proven results in value analysis.
  • APICS certification or equivalent.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and specifications.
  • Knowledge and anticipation of market trends and economic conditions.
  • Strong decision making and risk management skills.
  • Knowledge and use of financial analysis and accounting principles.
  • Knowledge and understanding of state, federal and international legal rights and laws relating to procurement.
